CADAQUES

With its beautiful horseshoe-shaped bay and cobble-stoned streets, Cadaques is a delight to explore with its many shops and galleries. Pop into the Tourist Office just behind the Casino and pick up lots of information/maps etc. Visit the church of Santa Maria – there is a wonderful view outside and a magnificent altar inside – if it is not lit up, look for a box in which you can put one euro to turn the lights on.

Walk all around the bay, in both directions there are many little coves and beaches, and bars and restaurants to stop for refreshments. If you feel a bit energetic, walk to Cala Nans lighthouse quite an easy walk and, if you are a more serious walker there are paths you can take around Mount Peni to Roses.

cadaques offeres some cultural events see this website if you would like to know what the loca people are up to, in summer there is a lot of live music, cinema and other activities.

PARKING

Bank

Just off the main square with ATMs that are accessible 24 hours.

Antiques

On the last Sunday of every month there is an Antiques Market in the Placa (village square) . Worth a visit for old textiles and all sorts of weird and wonderful things.

There are plenty of charming shops selling baskets, ), clothes and presents – part of the charm of Cadaqués is wandering about and finding them. Don’t expect to find ‘designer’ shops however – Cadaqués has a very special relaxed style; somewhat bohemian and much loved by the artists who live and visit here all year round.

Jewellery

Look out for Gemma Pitxot jewls , just on the way up to the church

and also for Gemma Ridameya, just up the road from Can Tito.

Weekly Market

Every Monday morning by the town car park from 8.30 until 12.30 ish. Go early as it gets hot and very busy in summer. Sells fruit and veg, plants, herbs, the best olives, honey, soap, espadrilles, baskets, clothes and much more. Well worth getting up for. Its easy to find as everyone else will be heading there.

Artists Studios

There are over 75 artists living and working in Cadaques (and many more visiting). Some of them have open studios/galleries in the town; others only open their studios at certain times of the year or by special request (email kixegrau@aol.com and we may be able to arrange visits depending on artists availability). This is well worthwhile doing and you may be able to purchase some lovely work, large or small, as well below gallery prices.

Babysitting service

We have several excellent babysitters/childminders if you need one. Kixe can help but advance notice would be helpful.
